I need to type numbers, like 2.5, without any spacing after the "."
Yesterday, Word did it, today it puts in 2 spaces after each "." What
happened? How do I fix this?

You must have added an autocorrect entry to replace the period with a
period and two spaces. Delete the entry from your autocorrect list.
Then use Edit | Replace to find a period and two spaces and replace with
a period.
