How do I delete a line break in Microsoft Word?

I can't seem to get rid of lines that show up in Micorsoft Word documents.
Line Breaks. I seem to be able to add them, but deleting them is impossible.
I'm using Micorsoft Office 2000.

First click the ¶ button on the toolbar so you can see what's causing the
lines to break. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NonPrintChars.htm
for pictures of the assorted nonprinting characters and what they mean.

Select the line break characters you don't want, and delete them; or use
Find/Replace to get rid of bunches at once
(http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/FindingSpecialCharacters.htm).
