How do I create a link to return me back to the table of contents

Trying to create a link in a footer of a document that will return me to the
table of contents. Does anyone know how? Thanks
 
Hi pickle77,

You could bookmark the ToC and insert a cross-reference to it in the footer.

Alternatively, if you're navigating to a page by clicking on an item in the ToC, then clicking on the back-arrow on the navigation
toolbar (or Quick-Access toolbar in Word 2007) will achieve the same result without having to change the document.

In addition to the ideas suggested by macropod, in Word 2003 and 2007, you
can add a GoToTOC button to a toolbar or the QAT.
