I am trying to show my pupils how to use a picture and create a hotspot to
link parts of the picture onto other web pages that they create using
Microsoft Word

I believe I know how to do it for an individual picture.

Select the picture you want to add the link to.
Select INSERT ... HYPERLINK
Enter the URL that you want to link to

You might also try placing drawing objects over sections of the picture. If
you designate them as having no fill and no border they will be invisible.
you can then assign the different hyperlinks to each of the drawing objects.
To keep it all together you may want to group the objects. also be careful
of how the objects are layers. you have to keep the drawing objects in front
of the picture.
