how do i copy & paste a "protected form"

K

kimster

i have a Form Document that i need to be able to fill in the form and then
cut and paste into another file after the form is completed. because i have
to protect the form to enable the drop downs, it will not allow me to copy it
so that i can paste it where it need it to go. Allowing users of the form to
"unprotect" to allow them to copy it is not an option.

Unless you unprotect the form, what you wish to do is not an option either.
The best approach is to use a macro to unlock the form (if necessary),
transfer the data and re-lock the form, but then you have to ensure that
users will run the macro, and as you have not said what you want to extract
and how you want it placed in the other document, it is not possible to
advise further. The code for locking and unlocking the form will be covered
at http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/SpellcheckProtectDoc.htm and you may
find http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Extract_Form_Data.htm userful.
