Help Please,
Trying to help a very poor old lady that received a CD from a
friend of hers with photos made (I think) by PICTURE IT? She can't
get another copy of these, taken at a family reunion somewhere in SC.
I can not open this (xxx.mix) file extension type. Can I convert these to
..jpeg or some other image file?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

The latest PictureIt programs will allow viewing of the mix format and you
should also be able to save in a different format. Also PhotoDraw 2000 can
open and save .mix files.

You might also try the following if you have MS Word to convert the files

1. Have the said .mix file saved on your computer somewhere.

2. Open up Microsoft Word and click on the "Insert" menu.

3. Click on "Picture" and then "From File..."

4. Find the .mix file that you have saved on your computer and insert it
into the document. Now you should be able to view the image as a part of
your Word document.

5. Now, in order to save it as a jpeg, just go to the "File" menu and click
on "Save As."

6. Save the document as a "Web Page" (again, let's say in "My Documents")

7. You won't notice anything different, but then go to where you saved the
web page document and you'll see that there's the web page file along with a
folder titled "filename_files." Open this folder and inside you'll find the
..mix image saved as a jpeg. Then feel free to rename the image and place it
wherever you'd like.

I'm pretty sure that those must be from Microsoft Photo Draw which has been
discontinued. It appears that you should be able to insert them into PowerPoint
2002 or 2003, Word 2003, or into Publisher 2003. In PowerPoint 2003 and
PowerPoint 2002 you can then right click and choose "Save as Picture" and save
them to JPGs. I don't have one here to test with, so please let us know if that
works.
