How do I convert a .tif or .pdf file to Excel?

I need to be able to scan something and transfer it from a .tif file or a
..pdf file into an Excel spreadsheet. Is there any way to do that? Please help
me if you can.
 
If it's a PDF file, from Acrobat you may be able to select the text, copy it,
and paste into your spreadsheet.

As for the tif file, you'd need to use OCR software.
