How do I convert a number like 19660124 to 01-24-1966 in excel?

I have a lengthy column in Excel of birthdates, written as 19660124 and I
need to convert them so they read like 01-24-1966.

Column Data Format/Date/YMD
Finish

Format/Cells/Number Custom Type: mm-dd-yyyy
