how do i connect outlook to my email?

cannot connect to send/receive email. hotmail and aol accounts, settings
verified. get error message. using outlook 2003 on windows xp with aol
wireless broadband

Unless you're using Hotmail Plus or Hotmail Premium, you cannot connect to a
Hotmail account with Outlook. Instructions for AOL are on the AOL help
pages.
 
hi, the settings are all correct, have checked a million times, even aol
have verified to me the settings. i can send emails from outlook but it wont
receive them, says there are errors

it says this everytime i click on send/receive button. i can actually send
emails though, just not receive them.

Can you open a command line window and telnet to port 143 of that server?

Open a command prompt window and telnet to the IMAP port.

Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt to open a command promtp
window, then type

telnet imap.uk.aol.com 143

in the window. If your PC can reach it, you'll see something like this:

*OK imap-m12 v40.7 server ready

If you do, then you can get out press CTRL-] and enter QUIT at the prompt.
Let us know what happens.

that's what it says when i do that

OK, then, that means that it's not a networking issue, per se, that is
preventing Outlook from accessing the server. So, we'll have to check other
things. Try enabling diagnostic logging and seeing if anything sticks out
in the log. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831053/en-us . If you wish, you can post
the contents of the log for help in its interpretation. Make sure you
obfuscate any real mail addresses in contains if you decide to post it.

followed all directions EXACTLY as stated, but still wont receive emails.
still getting same 2 send/receive errors, and also it still wont connect to
the server. when i click on file, connect to imap.uk.aol.com it says "unable
to connect to server"
