How do I close document without closing word program?

How can I keep the word program open when I close one document so that I
don't have to reopen the program in 2007.

Also when I search for a document, who do I get back to the folder without
having to go through the main fold, then documents, then the sub folders.
There used to be a green arrow in word that would allow us to go up folder by
folder.

The 'green arrow' is still there in any of Word's file operations windows.
