how do I cite references in word 2003?

I have been using Word 2007, but am trying to help a friend who is still
using 2003. 2007 makes it easy to manage your references, insert citations,
and works cited. Is there a similar feature in 2003?

The citation/bibliography feature is new in Word 2007.
