How do I check an external HD plug via USB for bad sectors, orhealthy?

Windows XP w/SP2
HP Personal Media Drive

How do I check if my external HD is not dying, bad sectors, in a few
words if my external HD is ok?
I want a report of it,

A hardware review would use the Diagnostic utility from the drive
manufacturer. Look at their web site.
