How do I change the default area code in Outlook?

I am trying to figure out how to change the default area code in Outlook.
All of the "help" information refers to country codes, but nothing on area
codes.
 
This is an operating system setting, not an Outlook setting.
You did not mention your operating system.
In Windows XP you set it in Control Panel > Phone and Modem settings...
