How do I change default Label Options

G

When using 'Envelopes & Labels or Mail Merge the Label Options always comes up
'Avery Standard' and starts at label '5963 Shipping.'

I want to change these defaults to 'Avery A4 & A5 sizes' and start at 'L7161'
as this is nearer the size of labels we regularly use and it is a pain
having to change the options every time I create labels.

I know this can be done because some PCs in the office already go to the
right place but the users do not know how they did this! Any help on
changing the defaults will be appreciated.

Word defaults to the last label pattern used. If that is L7161, that's what
it should stay at until you choose another. The lists are irrelevant.

I use mail merge 2-3 times a day and my Word XP does not default to the last
label used it ALWAYS comes up on Avery Standard and has 5963 Shipping label
highlighted. Thanks anyway.

This should not occur - whether you use the merge toolbar or the merge task
pane, the last used label should always be selected. If this is not
occurring, then it is possible that you have a minor corruption of the
registry data key. See if
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm fixes it.

OTOH, if you are opening an existing mail merge main document, I can see
that the dialog might default to the label actually used for the document
(it would be handy if this were the case, but I think it does not occur in
practice).
