How do I change column headings from A,B,C to actual words?

I want my column headings across the top to have actual words in there
instead of being just the alphabet all the way across. I like to have
my rows match up to the numbers on the left but if I make a column
heading starting in row 1, then my numbers are off on the left by one
because the heading takes up one of my lines. Is there any way to make
the A, B, C...be actual the headings for my columns? If so, how do I
change them?

Thanks!
Nicole

Hi Nicole

You can use window -Freeze Panes in the menu bar
to freeze the first column and Row.
Select cell b2 and do window -Freeze Panes

You can put your own headers in the first row and column then

Under Tools -options -View uncheck row & column headers so
the default row and column headers are gone

I actually meant, is there any way to change what's in the gray cells a
the top of the page. The gray cells that say A, B, C, D... I woul
rather my column headings be in those gray cells than those letters.

Thanks!

Nicol
