I'm using Microsoft Word 2003. I've got a field that is displaying what I've
typed in elsewhere. In other words, if I type the word "Apple" into the
field, the word "Apple" displays at another point in the document. What I
need to do, however, is have the word "Apple" appear in bold in the new
location (not where I entered it).

I hope I explained that well.

Right-click the field and choose Toggle Field Code. You'll see some words
enclosed in braces (the field markers).

If you see \*MERGEFORMAT in there, change it to \*CHARFORMAT. If you don't
see \*MERGEFORMAT, then add \*CHARFORMAT between the last word and the
closing brace. Put a space before the backslash.

Once that's done, select the field code and make it bold. Then press F9 to
update the field. Whenever it updates, it will be bold.
