how do i backup outlook 2000 pst files

I have found the backup utility for outlook 2003/ 2002 but I have not found
one for 2000. We are running mostly Outlook 2000 here at our office. Does
anyone know a way to backup *.pst files to NAS using a similar program? Maybe
there is another version of the software for outlook 2000

You should simply be able to make a copy of the PST unless you're asking more
than that.

The MS backup utility works on OL2k, its just that it requires validation to
download and OL2k no longer validates.
If you have access to a later version of Office you can still download the
exe and execute it on the OL2k pc's

I downloaded the file on an office 2k3 machine and installed it on an outlook 2k machine. The file did not work. It installed fine it seemed but I have no backup option in the file menu and when i close outlook I do not get the option to backup presented to me. Any help??? thank you, Preston

See if this helps;

The add-in may not be registered correctly. So, try registering the dll with
the following steps.

1. Exit Outlook.
2. On the Start menu click Run
3. In the Open box type the following and click OK.

regsvr32 "c:\program files\microsoft office\office\addins\outbak.dll"

NOTE: You may need to adjust the above path to Outbak.dll to match the
location on your computer.

4. After running the command line start Outlook.

I've got the same kind of problem, just that I don't have access to a later

No add-in needed. Just copy the PST with Outlook closed.

Thanks for the tip, the problem is that I have a couple of laptops in the
family, have all files on the server since it backs the files up every night
on tape, a DDS3, honestly, it is a home system but with 4 kids and me being a
former PC technician...
So the problem is to automate the procedures as much as possible.
Files on the server when online but synchronized to the laptops when offline
or when the computers are moved outside.

With XP pro there is no problem using offlinefiles except that a number of
officefiles cannot be synchronized for some reason, among them the .PST

Solved the problem though, I just renamed the .PST to .PSA or something like
that, opened it in Outlook who didn't care a bit, and use offline files and
synchronization when logging in or out.

I'd consider replacing the Outlook shortcut with a shortcut to a BAT file
that first copies the PST to a network share, then opens Outlook normally.
This will give you an automatic backup every time you start Outlook.
