How do I back up user settings and user data?

Hello everyone,

I've been using Outlook Express for a while now and I'm familiar with
backing up my user settings and user data for this program but would like to
start using Outlook. I would like to know how to back up my user settings
and user data for Outlook should I have a problem with my hard drive and
need to reinstall Outlook and all the settings that I made to it as well as
all the user data (messages, address book, notes, calendar info, tasks, SIM
card info, etc.).

I'm using WinXP Pro with all the updates installed as well as Office XP Pro
with all the updates installed.

Thanks to all who reply,

Ismael

From a search (that you could do) at Microsoft's support knowledgebase
site (http://support.microsoft.com) on "backup" for Outlook:

How to back up, to restore, or to move Outlook 2002 data in Outlook 2002
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=287070

How to automatically back up your personal folders (.pst) file in
Outlook 2002
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290827
(be be warned that it only backs up the message store, not the settings)

Neither of those articles address saving your mail profile(s) which is
were your e-mail accounts are defined. Your e-mail accounts are defined
and saved in the registry under:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

You could open regedit.exe and export that registry key to a .reg file.
You could use the MS Office "Save My Settings" wizard.

Description of the Save My Settings Wizard in Office XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=298059

However, in its description at , it says it only saves a subkey named
"Outlook" but that might not be what you named your mail profile, plus
you may have other mail profiles, so I don't know if this wizard is safe
(in that it may not include any mail profiles except the default name
"Outlook" one).
