checked the account section of Outlook 2007 only to discover that I have one
one email assount listed there. So, .....
Ok, if you saw only 1 account listed under Tools > Account Settings > Email
tab, then check inbox rules as you might have one not doing what you expect.

Thank you for kindness in sticking with this. I checked the inbox rules
and saw only one rule (recommended) about clearing categories. However, in
the meantime and with several test messages, the problem seems to have
corrected itself. I assume receiving only one copy of each emails will
continue.
