For some reason Microsoft left the path information out of the building
blocks. However, you can very easily insert the field.

From the Insert tab, select Footer. Then select Edit Footer. Then from the
Insert Tab, select the Quick Parts command in the Text Group. Select Field
from the list. In the Field dialog box, Locate File Name. When you do, there
will be an option to checkmark on whether you want to include the Path.
Click OK to insert the Field in the footer.

Now that you have done that, select all your text, and from the Quick Parts
drop down, select "Save Selection to Quick Parts Directory. I would suggest
naming your new Quick Part - File Name and Path. Select Footers as the
Gallery if you would like to add a more detailed description, that will show
up when you hover over your footer in the Footer command. Click OK.

For future documents, you will be able to use the File Name and Path Footer
in the Footer Command.

If you get stuck, give us a shout back and we will see what we can do.

Please ask "micrsoft" to put this feature clearly back into the building
blocks. THOUSANDS of us use this feature regularly. So now THOUSANDS of us
unnecessarily waste a LOT of time trying to find out where it is, only to end
up here in frustration, to end up implementing a solution that is twice as
complicated as the new layout MS Word 2007 menu toolbars which were supposed
to save time.

Why not simply press CTRL+F9, between the brackets type FILENAME /P then
press F9? This works with all Word versions and is faster than looking for
the menu command.

But you'll need FILENAME \P, I believe.

Thank you for stating this so well. I'm officially one of the Thousands. I
used this in 2003 and set up an entire naming convention around having the
file names on the footer of each document. our entire organization will need
to muddle thru this.
