How do I add text "live" while the PP presentation is running?

Let's say I need to post a short message at the bottom of the screen ("Mr.
Jones, call home" for example), while the actual PP presentation is running.
Is there any way for me to do that without having to dump out of the
presentation - which would be visible to everyone on the auditorium screens,
and I don't want that - ? Some sort of dynamic text box, or something like
that? Or would I need a whole other computer and projector aimed at the same
auditorium screen in order to do this? Any thoughts?

You can add a textbox from the control toolbox.
First click View > Toolbars > Control Toolbox.
From the Control Toolbox, select textbox.
Click on the slide and drag it to have a size of your preference.
Run the slide show and type something in the textbox.

Is that what you want?

yes, yes, yes ... i think this is exactly what i need! thanks! i'm just
playin' with it ... tryin' to figure out how to change border colour, etc. so
the text box itself will not be visible and only what I type in it will be
.... but yup, this was what i meant ... thanks again!

I would suggest just linking a cell from excel to the slide. That way
you can simply update the cell with text and powerpoint will change
during the loop of the slide show.

Here is a link to the automatic update for powerpoint.
