How do I add one leading character to all of the cells in a column

I have a spreadsheet with several hundred rows. On of the columns MUST have
a leading character placed in the cell. How can I add this letter without
having to rekey all of the cells? Example One cell has 2142423. I must put
a leading X for the cell to read X2142423.

Insert a column to the left of existing column.
Enter this in new column (A1) --
=Concatenate("X", B1)
Darg to autofill column 'A'.
Click on column 'A' label at top to highlight the column.
Copy.
Paste Special - Values.
Check column 'A' data to see that it now contains actual text instead of
formula.
Delete column 'B'.
