How do I add margin notes?

I do work at home for an attorney and he now wants to know if I know how to
add margin notes. I'm not sure what he's talking about or how to do it.
 
The second sentence in your question is the correct answer to the
attorney's question.
 
If you have Word 2002 or 2003, he's probably referring to Comments (Insert |
Comment), which by default are displayed in "balloons" in the margin.
