how do I add captions to a picture that is not in a photo gallery

Does anyone know how to add a caption to a photo that is just on the page and
not in a photo gallery? I have tried it and can't do it for some reason.

What did you try?

Use a table on the page, with another row/cell either above or below the
row/cell that the picture is in, and type in your caption.

<div class="picturecell"><img src="anypath/anyimage.jpg" /><br />
Caption</div>

You can then employ CSS to set your alignment for the text under
the picture...

<style type="text/css">
..picturecell {text-align:center;margin:auto;}
</style>

Hope that helps.

Hi - thanks for your quick reply. I don't use tables -- maybe I should. I
was under the impression that, on different browsers, pictures would move
around. I used to use layers -- captions fit very easily under pictures with
those -- but they moved around also (would be covering text on some people's
browsers). Bear in mind that you're talking with a computer moron.
Thanks.

As Tom suggested PJ - use tables. It is one of the easiest ways to layout the
page as you want it and it will keep its integrity over cross browsers.

Thanks so much. I am now going to my FrontPage book and learn how to use
them. It's got to be easier than what I've been trying to do.

Thanks so much for your response, but I don't know how to write code -- I
just drag and drop like a total moron. I will try to use tables like Steve
suggested.

Using tables is the easiest way to add a caption. You can use the "draw
table" feature/icon in FP2003, but beware, when you are done using this
feature click on it again to get out of it. For some reason known only to
God and one other person, this "draw table" icon sticks.
If anyone out there has a solution to that, I'd like to know it.
Otherwise, it works fine.
Good luck.

Well, I tried clicking on "table" then "draw" then "draw layout cell." That
enabled me to put a small box under a picture, and then I entered a caption.
Is there a better way to do it? (Please explain it to me in language that a
3-year-old could understand, if you have the patience and the time.)
Thanks,

I asked you *not* to use draw.
Use the FP help files to learn how to insert tables.
