How do I add a default plus one to an already existing series wit.

I have a database with a series of numbers with four digits going from 0097
to 0378, I need it to put a default value of the next higher number in all
new records. So when I start a new record it will automatically say 0379 and
then 0380 and so on. Can anyone help me??
