How do I access my encryped files on a newly installed O.S.?

Hello,

I seem to have a seious problem on my hands. I accidentally encryped some files (important files) that I recently transferred to a backup drive. Not realizing that these files were encrypted, I re-formatted my main (root) drive and then re-installed my XP operating system without removing the encryption first. Now the system no longer recognizes me as the owner of these encryped files. When I attempt to uncheck the "encrypt contents to secure data" checkbox, I receive an "acces denied" error message. Having encryped these files accidentally, I obviously have no data recovery agent assigned in the recovery policy. When I try to add another user to transparently access theses files, I only get an empty list box. Does this mean these files are forever lost or is there another way to decrypt or access them. Please help.

thx

Unless you have the keys, you data is most likely gone forever, check
this link to see what options you may have:
