How do I abbreviate words to become full words?

In Word Perfect I could use an abbreviation such as gb that would type out as
gallbladder instead of having to type the whole word. I cannot seem to find
something similar in Word. I am a transcriptionist and I waste valuable time
having to type out whole words instead of using an abbreviated form that will
type out as a full-length word. Any suggestions?
