Got a WinXP Pro PC would like to set up for family, and wondered about the
"degree of difficulty" and how to set up the below arrangment. Mostly, it's
a general purpose PC with MS Office, IE6, Outlook, and games, and it varies
as to who needs/wants what, which is:
JANE(PARENT)
Will have administrative privileges. Need ALL software applications,
although she might delete some game icons. Prefers to have ONLY her
"favorites" In IE6. Prefers to see ONLY her email in Outlook, doesn't want
to have to specify which email account is hers just to download email. In
Word and Excel and PowerPoint, prefers to have a default directory (let's
say it's c:\Word\Jane\Documents and not have to pick it every time
BILLY(KID#1)
Probably doesn't need administrative privileges, but he doesn't like if he
can't install games and software. Prefers to show icons ONLY for HIS games,
not sister's games he doesn't like. Doesn't use much MS Office (couldn't we
just delete the icons?) except Word. Prefers to see ONLY his email in
Outlook. In Word, prefers to have his own default directory without
specifying it every time.
CINDY(KID#2)
Same setup as Billy, but her stuff.
Thanks, would appreciate knowing some basic steps, how long this might take,
which folders are involved in the "everybody" vs. individual accounts, what
the gotchas are, are there any simple broadbrush approaches to save lots of
customization time, and so forth.
