How clean is uninstall of Office 2003 (to revert to Office 2002)?

I've been hunting around trying to find how to convert a Unicode PST file
created with Outlook 2003 to an ANSI PST file usable by Outlook 2002. We
had a contract worker that used Outlook 2003 on his laptop. Before leaving,
we saved off the data files from his laptop, including the PST files but
they were apparently in Unicode format because we cannot read them using
Outlook 2002. From my searching, it appears the only way we can revert is
to install the trial version of Outlook 2003, create an ANSI PST file, copy
the items from the Unicode PST file to the ANSI PST file, and uninstall
Outlook 2003.

So I'm wondering how clean is the uninstall of Outlook 2003. Apparently it
won't co-reside with Outlook 2002 because
http://www.microsoft.com/office/editions/prodinfo/standardtrial.mspx says,
"If you are using an older version of Microsoft Office (for example,
Microsoft Office 97, Microsoft Office 2000, or Microsoft Office XP) and want
to return to the previous version after using the Office Standard 2003
trial, you will be required to uninstall the Office 2003 trial and
re-install your previous version with your back-up media."

It works fine. Installing the trial is the only way to convert the 2003
..pst file to the older ansi version.
