How check System Volume Information?

When checking properties on the C-drive it says that 5.85 Gb is used. But
when I check the properties for the root and all folders, they take together
up only 4.36 Gb. So I do miss 1.5 Gb on that drive. Have also seen that the
folder 'System Volume Information' shows 0 bytes and is not possible to
open. Have heard that there should be information about system reset points.
Anyone know if it is so and how to check the size?

Hi Rolf,

The 'missing' space might be taken up by the restore points by system restore. You can remove retore
points through the disk cleanup utility. Right-click the said drive in My computer and choose
properties. Click on the 'disk cleanup' button. In the disk cleanup dialog, flip to the 'more
options' tab and click on 'clean up' under system restore. This will remove all the previous restore
points except the last one.

NOTE: Once you remove the retore points, you cannot restore your system to a previous date to undo
any unwanted changes made to the system.

What size is your page file?
Do you have Hidden and System Files visible?
Look up "SequoiaView" and download/install it to see where all your space is
(visually.)

Do you have all hidden files/folders set to be visible? Do this from
Folder Options (Control Panel applet). There are three boxes that
pertain to hidden files - one for hidden extensions, two for hidden
files.

Some utils show hidden files/folders, others do not. Nothing to worry
about.

Thank you all for your inputs. I have now tested them.

I have removed all restore points but the last one as Anando suggested. That
gave me back 650 Mb. When I set a new restore point today, that took 20 Mb.

All files/hidden files and extensions are visible. But The System Volume
Information is still reported as 0 bytes.

Also checked with the program that Shenan suggested, but also that reported
0 bytes and a blank space even now that I know I have two restore points in
the system.

You will also want to test SR by creating a restore point and
restoring to it.

Try this if you are using XP Home Edition:
R/Click the System Volume Information folder > Sharing and security... >
place a check in share this folder on the network, you should then
be able to open and see the contents.
