How Can I

Hi All,

I have a laptop and PC and would like to use the both with 1 keyboard and
mouse. Please can someone advise how i would be able to do this without a KVM
switch.

I have a KVM switch but would like to use just software in order to
configure both machines using 1 mouse and Keyboard. I know this can be done
but am unsure of how to set it up or what software is available.

Both machines are Windows XP Pro.

Any information kindly accepted.

Kind Regards

You say "I know this can be done". How do you know this can be done? It
doesn't sound likely to me without using an external mouse/keyboard
connected to a KVM. I'm interested to see where you found information
on doing this in software alone.

Hi Malke,

There is some software on the market called ultramon which i am now
attempting to look into.

Do a google search on Ultramon and you will find some software. Not sure how
it works though and it may need some additional hardware.

AFAIK UltraMon is about using multiple monitors on one machine, not the
same thing at all as using one monitor/keyboard/mouse on multiple
machines. You need a KVM.

You can not have a software that "physically" replace the keyboard/mouse on
two PCs.

A KVM Switch would be the simplest method, but you could also network
the machines and then use a remote control application, such as
Symantec's pcAnywhere or DameWare's MiniRemote Control to control one
computer from the other.
