How can I view attachments in-line?

When I use Outlook Express, messages I receive that have picture attachments
display the pictures directly in the preview pane for the message. With
Outlook however, the attachments are displayed as icons which I have to
double-click to view them in a separate viewer application. Can Outlook be
configured to see picture attachments in-line like Outlook Express has
support for a long long time?

Hi Peter

It depends on which mail format is using, by default, OE use HTML and MS
Outlook use RichText or Word. I suggest you to change the MS Outlook
default mail format to HTML, then you can see the same as OE.

This has got nothing to do with the format of the message. Outlook simply
doesn't display attachments in-line (by Insert-> File). Outlook only
displays pictures in-line when they are inserted in-line by Insert->
Picture...

That's really unfortunately. A definitely lacking in an otherwise very
complete program...

Is there a third party add-on to support in-line viewing of pictures that
have been added using Insert File? The problem is that few people, including
myself, use the Insert Picture command. I either go for the paper clip tool
bar button or drap and drop the picture in my message. Even low-end email
clients support in-line viewing of attached pictures so I'm surprized there
is no way to do this in the #1 maul client available.
