Which version of Word do you have (language as well as number)?

If you don't own a Portuguese language version of Word, how did you get
the Portuguese spell check, to begin with?

First thanks for being interested to help me. I didn't really expect any
responses, pretty good this community stuff!!

Okay version Word 2002 SP2 - English

The Portuguese version is part of the option for the ABC language selection
on the spell checker I have installed. I presumed it wqas included as one of
the 50 or so choices. You have many choices to check in many different
languages with the ABC (tick) option.

If I can provide you anymore usuful info please let me know.

I was thinking to download SP3 to see if that helps, what do you think?

Thanks again

Right. The situation is this: Each local language version of Word comes with a
proofing tools for "relevant" languages. For English, this is English, French
and Spanish.

If you want any other languages, then you have to purchase the Proofing Tools CS
that contains all 30+ languages that Office supports. If you're in North
America, you can order it from the online store at microsoft.com; other regions
have to purchase it from a software retailer dealing in MS Office products.

Office still allows you to format a document with a language for which proofing
tools aren't installed. Someone with the necessary tools can then proof the
document.

Note: the best place to post questions about spelling, grammar, etc. is the
word.spelling.grammar newsgroup. Topic-specific and less traffic :)
