How can I tell how many licenses are in use?

I have recently become the system administrator and would like to know
both how many Windows XP and 2003 licenses have our company used, and
the total amount that we can use. I have the product codes to be
checked. I was wondering if I could go to a Microsoft website and
find out where we stand. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!

SOMEBODY bought the licenses. Perhaps a good place to start is your
company purchasing records? Find out if they bought preloaded PCs, or
corporate licenses, or however they bought them, to begin. That could
also answer the question of how many.

For knowing how many are used, you should have a software deployment
manager (managesoft, or many others that are better) unless you have a
very small network and have time to check every system personally.
There are lots of free tools that will report the license key for the
system it is running on. The right answer to your query could be
different for 10 PCs as compared to 1000.
