How can I select a style and get it?

I copied a paragraph from File A to File B. The paragraph in File A is Arial
12. In File B, I clicked the short-key button to change the paragragh to the
Body style, But the result is that the style is changed to Body +. I made
many attempts and found that I must clear the style of the paragraph and
click the short-key button to get the right Body format.
You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one.

You should be able to clear direct formatting from a paragraph by pressing
Ctrl+Q (removes paragraph formatting not in style) and Ctrl+SpaceBar
(removes character formatting not in style).

Also, how did you apply the style to text in the first place? Note that in
some versions you have to either select whole paragraphs or select nothing
in order to correctly apply the style, and not just its character
formatting, to text.
