how can I return the active row and active column?

Need to be able to identify exact where user is in spreadsheet by row &
Column. Macro inserts row above, but I need to be able to format cells
within new row. such as merging cells in the new row, drawing a box around
new merged cell, copying formulas, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.
