How can I remove items from 'Add-in Manager'?

Three deselected items in Add-in Manager were carried forward from Outlook
2003 and activated yielding error messages. I found and deselected them but
I wish to remove them completely as the software they call up is no longer on
my system.

The error messages were annoying and it was time consuming to search for the
cause and deselect them. I want them off my system so that they cannot be
activated again - perhaps by the next upgrade?

Delete the file "extend.dat" in that the registry informations of the
add-ins are cached. You find the file in the hidden folder

C:\Documents and Settings\%Username%\Local Settings\Application
Datas\Microsoft\Outlook

Thank you,

I found and opened that file with Word (which thought it was in Japanese).
There were many code symbols but also the individual command lines. As I
only want to delete 3 of the 5 items can you tell me how to do that? My
impulse is just to delete the text of the 3 I want to remove. The other 2
are Outlook 2007 features ('Out of Office', etc.).

Do not edit the file ¡X delete it! After the next start of Outlook the
file will be recreated (with the correct registry informations).

Not only did deleting extend.dat not solve the problem but it made it worse.
When I opened Outlook it recreated the file and activated the 3 McAfee
Add-ins that I was hoping to remove forever. I have deselected them yet
again and now am back where I was at before deleting extend.dat.

Also the site you list - '...outlookfaq dot net' comes up in German which,
I'm afraid, is a language I have not spoken in 37 years and I have no
facility for retaining languages I do not use.

Consider, then, searching the registry for the items. Look in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Addins and in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins. If you see any of the items
there, export the registry key, then delete the item.

I had no luck with the keys you suggested so I just did a registry search for
'addins' and the following was the only reasonably relavent key that I could
find but it does not appear to be of any use as regards my problem.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Addins

Name Type Data
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
SearchToolbarsDisabled REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

See if in one ore more of the following registry keys are entries for
this items. If so delete them!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

12.0 signifies Outlook 2007. I missed that in one of your earlier posts.
Sorry.

Yea, not for OL 2007. I missed the mention of that in the earlier post.

Neither for Outlook 2007, nor for an other version. The
extension-entries are always stored in

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

or

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins

or

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions

When I am wrong, please correct me!

Neither for Outlook 2007, nor for an other version.

That's demostrably false, as the Outlook Personal Folders Backup program has
registered a value in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Addins on
my Outlook 2003 system.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions had the
three McAfee's and I deleted only them which solved the problem. Thank you
very much for your help.

But I am left with a mystery. I tried searching the entire registry for
McAfee on several occasions including yesterday. The keys were there but the
searches did not find them. Can you tell me why that happened?

2003 system.

I have never seen add-ins ¡X neither on my own computers, nor on
costumers-computers ¡X that records their values in this version-specific
registry key. That's why I thought that only the registry keys I
mentioned in my other posting are correct :-(

Furthermore, an advanced google search resulted following:

13 hits for Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Addins
1 hit for Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Addins
1 hit for Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Outlook\Addins

But 333 for Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins ;-)

In any case, you live and learn ;-)

You're welcome ;-)

Maybe you have been using wrong or misspelled words for your search. Or
you didn't include all possible search criterias: keys, datas, values

In any case, the main thing is that you got rid of your issue ;-)
