When I open a file from another user who had different selections for view -
especially toolbars and icons on the toolbar - my view takes on the new
format as the "master." Why bother to select what tools you want on the
toolbar when it is changed everytime you look at a document you didn't
prepare? Is there as way I can keep my format of "view" instead of
defaulting to the last one opened?

A PowerPoint file will open in the same view (ie, Normal, Sorter, etc.) in
which it was saved. That's convenient when you're working on your own files,
but may not be when you open files from someone else. Still, it only takes
switching back to whatever view you prefer. A click or two of the mouse at
most.

Some toolbars are only appropriate for certain views, so they may appear or
disappear with view changes. That can also cause the toolbars to move from
where you've put them at times, but again, switching back to your preferred
view should leave you with your preferred toolbars in view, though they may
have been shifted.

Are you seeing something different? For example are your toolbars really
disappearing and not coming back?

I guess I am looking for more convenience. I get many attachments each day -
word, xcel, ppt - all cahnge my settings. I was hoping there was a "master
switch" I could go to to keep from having to place all the icons that I use
back on the various toolbars. I undewrstand that documentys will open as
they were saved. the problem is that it maintains that format until either I
manually go through the motions of changing them or open another document.
Thanks for trying to be helpful. It looks like it is just the product and I
will have to continue changing back to what I need each time.
