How can I open an attachment in the reading pane?

I am trying to open attachments directly in the reading pane. I know from the
demo I should just be able to click on the attachment to open it in the
viewing pane. If I click on the attachment twice it opens the attachment in
a new window. What am I doing wrong?

What demo is this? And what attachment types? Images? Documents?

The reading pane can render HTML messages sent with content, including
embedded excel pages, but launching an attachment should call the
application associated with the extension (or require you to save the
attachment to the file system first).
