How can I move a complete word using the space key?

Usually when I type a letter or e-mail and I need to move(space forward) a
word, I put the cursor before the first letter of the word and when the space
key is hit the word move one space or so. Now when I hit the space, the
characters are being deleted one by one I don't know what did I change in the
settings to have this in this way.
