How can I modify the default buttons?

I need to display about 30 macros to use when reviewing and adding comments
to students' papers. In Word 2003, I could display letters, such as cs ro
art to show which macro result would appear on the students' drafts. In
Word 2007, I see only a selection of buttons. I need to have something that
is meaningful. I want to modify the buttons, pixel by pixel as I can do in
Word 2003 or display letters, as I did in Word 2003

In Word 2007, you cannot modify the button, just choose one of the
predefined buttons for macro commands. What you can do is change the
"Display name" which shows in a screen tip if you rest your mouse pointer on
the button.
