way back many years I remember that I could import and create a table with a
wizard which seems to be missing in the version of Access I am now using.
It even allowed you to use the first record headings as field names. How
can I add this capability to my xp and vista systems?
Pete

It is part of Access, you neglected to say what version you are talking
about. If it is 2007 you click on external data and you'll find it. Don't
ignore the More drop down button many options are in there. It has nothing
to do with version of windows.

I neglected to mention that I am now using access 2000, version 9,0,2720
Pete
I still cannot find it. I suppose that it is part of Microsoft Data Access
Components or some such thing I must learn.
Pete

No it is part of standard access.

You are putting a lot of confidence in our ability to read your mind... Access
version? Where you're importing it from????

But... try File... Get External Data... Import. Select txt (if you're
importing from text files, if not specify what file type you're actually
using).

sorry, i am importing from a text file, access 2000, version 9.0.2720.

txt is not one of the choices offered, only odbc and microsoft access. i
would jump for joy if txt was one of the choices. I remember doing this in
access 1.1 or 2.0 in about 1995.

Well, I no longer have 2000 installed (it's four versions back and the
next-to-worst version ever released), but 2002/3 offers "Text files ( .txt,
..csv, .tab, .asc)" as one of the options for "Files of Type" on the file
selection window. It may be that you have an incomplete or damaged
installation of Access. I don't believe that this was an option which was
taken out after 2.0 and put back in with 2002!

thanks much again.

i agree. i tried re reinstall access 2000, but it took about 2 seconds to
update and then quit. i am also quitting and going back to the old way of
adding records and reading each one from the text file, with rs.addnew, etc.
