Hi ...am not an expert user of systems as many in this forum seem to be... so
my question is very basic...

I have the windows xp professional cd that came with my new laptop... i
didnt have problems with the laptop or the windows xp until i installed the
famous service pack 2.... since that day my lap has experienced slowness at
performing every task and the last thing that really upset me was that i can
not install and use some programs (sthg i could do before) such as the
mcmillan english dictionary... because i want to het my laptop back at the
state when it was faster and all the programs ran ok i decided to reinstall
the windows xp using the reinstallation cd that came with the lap (in other
words get rid of the service pack2)

when i used the cd to install again the windows xp the system said that
because i have a newer version of the system i should reboot the laptop using
the cd..
The problem is that everytime i try to boot the laptop using the cd-rom, the
installation program,it doesnt run anymore....the laptopremainns there doing
nothing and i have to shut it down and start again but the efect is the
same.... i thought that i needed to free more room in my hard disk.....so i
did.. but the result is the same.... i can not make the installation cd work
when restarting the laptop....

Can somebody help me to figure out a way to make my cd work with the laptop
when booting?.... or well give some tips to upgrade my service pack 2 so i
can make my laptop faster and run other programs

thanks

Check your manual and/or contact the laptop manufacturer for proper
reinstallation procedures.
The reinstallation procedure is unique to each manufacturer so they are the
source.

When you are ready for SP-2, follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist:

try changing the boot order. floopy 1, cd 2, c drive 3. Hold down delete or
f8 on startup. Or what ever boots into setup. Hope this is what youre looking
for

One can hope that you removed all spyware and viruses before installation of
SP2 in accordance with published advice. If not, just uninstall SP2 and then
clean up the system.
Start> Control panel> Add/Remove Programs Then click on Add/Remove Windows
components.

Once SP2 has been removed, download, install, update and scan with Ad-aware
SE Personal (Free): http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Upon removal of all of the junk, reinstall Service Pack 2.
