How can I enter into an Excel spreadsheet cell something like a green check mark or a red "X"?

How can I enter into an Excel spreadsheet cell something like a green check
mark or a red "X"?
 
For a green checkmark format the cells to Marlett font and green color.

Enter the letter "a" to get a green checkmark.

For a red "X" just format the cells to red font and enter an "X"
