I need a boot disk. My hard drive is about to crash.

The instructions to make a boot disk assume I have a floppy drive.
When I choose the Format for my CDRW drive it does not have an option
for making an MSDOS Startup Disk.

What can I do???

Why do you think you need a boot disk?

Start up with your windowsXP cd in the cd-rom drve and boot thro' it.
It will give you all the necessary instructions from there on.

Yes, that's what I mean. I thought I did need a boot disk to reinstall
the OS.

Yes I have a backup - hopefully it will work. I bought "Image for
Windows" and made an image of the hard drive.

Now I'll pray.......

If you have a retail full or upgrade version of the XP CD, you can do
everything you need to install the OS from it, assuming that your PC can be
booted from the CD drive. I believe that also applies to OEM versions, but
you may need to do something else with a PC manufacturer's restore disk.
However, I hope that no one would sell you a system that needs a floppy to
run the restore process, with no floppy drive installed.

Some CD burning software (Nero, Roxio) comes with a diskette image that
allows you to create a bootable CD. That CD emulates a floppy. You don't
need it for what you want to do, though.

Good luck with your drive.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.
