How can I change my proxy server?

some chick came to fix my computer while i was out of the office i think she
added firewall...but anyways i used to have yahoo messenger and i would like
to get it back but it sends a connection error26....that it cannot detect
internet connection which I have or the proxy server is invalid! What can I
do?!?!...to me it seems that I can only use my Internet Explorer and the
connection is not going to anything else? such as...messenger and winmx that
I have.
