How can I bring four pictures into a single slide, one at a time?

I want to bring in multiple photos, but have them staggered so they come in
one at a time. Can this be done? I tried it in PP 2002 and it wouldn't work,
but perhaps I didn't allow enough time for the background slide.
 
Make sure you animate the subsequent three slides
as "after previous."
