As i have had corrupted profiles in the past, wanted to create a backup of my
outlook files. I downloaded and installed the backup software and created an
outlook.pst file. i copied this file to a cd. i logged out of my profile,
created a new profile (on the same computer), opened Outlook and went to
file/open, went to the cd to open the backup and got "file access is denied".
I then tried the same process on another computer (the two are networked)
with the same result - file access is denied. I'm using a dell laptop with
windows xp and office 2003. The other computer uses windows 2000
professional with an older version of office. What is the point of making a
backup if you can't access it?????

You can't access a pst file on a CD. Outlook needs read-write access and
files on a CD are Read only. Copy the pst back to your HDD, remove the
Read-Only attribute and then open it.
