How can I align table cells on the basis of decimal point

I would like to be able to align numbers in table cells on the basis of the
decimal point. I thought I did this once before (many years ago) but cannot
see how to do it in Office 2007 applications.

When you say "Office", do you mean Excel, Word or something else? If it's
not Excel, you should post to the appropriate group. If it's Excel, you need
to tell us what format you are using, because decimals should be easy to
line up.

I think there are some solutions already provided.
one solution that might help would be
=A1& REPT(" ", 5 + FIND(".", A1) - LEN(A1))
