how can I add one more partition without affecting the current files and document?

Dear all

I have newly installed my windows Xp system. But due to hasteness, I
forgot to make partitions other the boot partition. That's to say, I
have 40GB harddisk, but I allocated 10GB for booting and system
partition and left the remaining 30GB unallocated and unformated.

Now after installing XP, I only see "C" drive with 10GB capacity. The
remaining 30GB is gone.

Can anybody help me to get that 30GB back without impacting the
existing files and documents safely?

Thanks a lot,

-Walala

Hi Walala,

Easy, start/run diskmgmt.msc

Right-click the free space and create a new partition. Format it before use.

Keep the C at that size, which is a very suitable one, and make the
remaining space into a second partition for data. That is a good
arrangement. In Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management,
select Disk Management and look lower right for the graphic of the
drive. R-click in the Unallocated space, and take 'Create Partition',
using all that is available (probably about 27 GB in the 'binary' scale
used here - 40 GB is decimal billion, factor of 1.07 smaller) and
continuing to format.

Reboot to bring that into use, then in My Computer open a window on the
new 'drive' and one on
C:\Documents and Settings\you
to show My Documents (and maybe other 'My' folders0.
With the *right* mouse button down, drag the folder(s) across, on
release take *Move* here
..
